Crews tackle large undergrowth fire

Suffolk and Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service were called at 2.23pm on Thursday 25th May to reports of a fire at Thetford Forest, between Brandon and Santon Downham.

At 3.30pm it was reported to us that four crews were in attendance, with another three ordered to the scene. A total of eight appliances attended the incident.

Approximately 1,000sqm of undergrowth was involved in fire and crews worked in extremely hot conditions using hose-reel jets and beaters to prevent further spread.

The incident concluded at approximately 9pm and crews from Thetford returned on Friday 26th May to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

Paul Seaman, South Norfolk and Breckland District Commander, said "Undergrowth is extremely dry at this time due to dry weather and limited rainfall so far this season, we would ask the public to remain vigilant and be careful not to use BBQs or discard cigarettes."
