Center Parcs evacuated amid incident

Restaurants, bars and the Subtropical Swimming Paradise were evacuated at Center Parcs Elveden Forest as the village square was closed due to an ongoing incident.

At around 8pm on Sunday 23rd July, guests were told to return to their lodges and await further information.

Center Parcs posted on Facebook just after 9.30pm that "Due to an incident in the village square, the area is closed for the remainder of this evening. We will update once we have more information."

This was followed up by a tweet from Center Parcs UK at 11pm stating "We we will update our guests once we have more information.  Many thanks for bearing with us."

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Police stated "Suffolk Police received a call shortly after 8pm this evening, Sunday 23 July, by a member of staff at Center Parcs, Elveden, after a customer reported overhearing someone mention a suspect device.

"The area has been evacuated as a precautionary measure and, as part of their protocol, Center Parcs staff searched the premises but no suspicious items have been found. 

"Police are currently on the scene investigating the incident however at this stage there is no evidence to suggest there is a threat to the public."

Eyewitnesses reported seeing bomb disposal teams at the resort as events unfolded howver this was denied by police.

Center Parcs confirmed that guests and staff were free to leave site at any time during the incident.
