Crews battle forest fire near Brandon

Fire and rescue crews from across Suffolk and Norfolk are once again battling a fire in the forest just outside Brandon with at total of 18 attending the incident.

Appliances from Brandon, Methwold, Mildenhall, Newmarket, Thetford, Ixworth, Haverhill, Wickhambrook, Elmswell, Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket, Long Melford, Clare and RAF Lakenheath have all been called to the blaze which was reported at 5.47am this morning.

The location of the fire is believed to be just to the east of the runway at RAF Lakenheath close to the A1065 Brandon Road.

A spokesman for the Forestry Commission, at 12.30pm, said: "An area of woodland roughly 100m x 80m has been destroyed but the fire is now under control.

"We would like to thank all the Fire and Rescue services from across the county and their American colleagues for their swift response."
