Brandon armistice centenary 1918-2018

During the week building up to Remembrance Day there will be a number of events happening across Brandon at various different locations beginning on Saturday 3rd November.

Residents are also invited to take a look at the painted poppies on the cemetery gates, the poppy cascade on St Peter's Church tower and other displays to commemorate the WWI armistice centenary.

Here's what's happening and when:

SATURDAY 3RD NOVEMBER

  • Angel Day - Remembering our loved ones
    10am to 2pm at St Peter's Church 
  • WWI exhibition
    10am to 4pm at Brandon Heritage Centre
  • WWI themed activities at Brandon market
    From 9.30am on Market Hill
  • Heritage football match with 1918 rules
    11am at Brandon Remembrance Playing Fields

SUNDAY 4TH NOVEMBER

  • WWI exhibition
    10am to 4pm at Brandon Heritage Centre
  • WWI commemorations themed children's party and craft activities
    2pm to 5pm at the Church Institute
  • Darren Norton's WWI monologue
    2pm at the War Memorial, Brandon Cemetery
  • Pop-up cinema
    6.30pm at the Church Institute

MONDAY 5TH NOVEMBER

  • Veteran's afternoon tea with entertainment
    3pm to 5pm at the Church Institute

TUESDAY 6TH NOVEMBER

  • Poetry and story telling
    11am at Tilly's Tea Room, High Street

WEDNESDAY 7TH NOVEMBER

  • Avenue drop in with WW1 theme
    9am to 12pm at the Church Institute
  • Tea & coffee with cakes in aid of Royal British Legion
    All day at Brandon Leisure Centre
  • Readings and a short film with refreshments
    11am to 12pm at Brandon Day Care Centre / Cafe 27

THURSDAY 8TH NOVEMBER

  • Suffolk Remembers - Laying of poppies on our two WWI graves by local schoolchildren
    10.30am to 11.30am at Brandon Cemetery
  • Communion and act of remembrance
    2.30pm at Brandon Park Nursing Home
  • Pop up cinema showing War Horse with refreshments
    7pm at Brandon Day Care Centre / Cafe 27

SATURDAY 10TH NOVEMBER

  • Open morning with refreshments, photo trail and children's crafts
    9.30am to 1pm at Brandon Baptist Church
  • WWI exhibition
    10am to 4pm at Brandon Heritage Centre
  • Tea Dance
    2pm to 5pm at the Church Institute
  • Darren Norton's WWI monologue
    2pm at Brandon Heritage Centre

SUNDAY 11TH NOVEMBER

  • Royal British Legion parade muster
    9.30am at Brandon Leisure Centre car park
  • March to St Peter's Church for remembrance service

  • March to war memorial
    10.45am at Brandon Cemetery
  • Act of remembrance, laying of wreaths, last post
    11am at the War Memorial, Brandon Cemetery

  • Commemoration of 100 years since Poland's independence
    2.30pm at the Polish Memorial, Brandon Cemetery
  • Lighthouse service - An evening of worship, songs and praise
