Gold for Brandon at this year's Anglia in Bloom awards

Brandon has been presented with a gold award and declared best overall in the medium town category at today’s Anglia in Bloom ceremony.

The event, which was held at The Carnegie in Thetford, also saw Brandon awarded for two displays which are looked after by the Brandon in Bloom team.

The Wedge on Thetford Road received a special award for the ‘Best Display Celebrating 60 Years of Britain in Bloom’ and was declared the winner in that category.

Brandon in Bloom’s ‘Tea Party’ display at The Friendly Bench, located on Bury Road, was took home a silver 60th anniversary award.

Three further areas of Brandon were nominated for Special Awards by the Anglia in Bloom judges, they were:

The Friendly Bench for Best Grow Your Own Project, The King’s Coronation Garden for Best Sustainable Planting and Brandon High Street for Best Conservation / Biodiversity Project.

The team at Brandon Country Park also received a silver gilt for their efforts in the parks category.

It was then onto the big awards for the region’s towns, cities and villages where Brandon achieved gold.

Along with being recognised as a gold town for their efforts, Brandon was also announced as the best in category for a medium town.

Rachel Sobiechowski, Brandon in Bloom’s Head of Horticulture, said: “I am extremely proud of our volunteers for their efforts in this year’s campaign, every year it’s harder to not only maintain the standards we have achieved but to keep improving is testament to their determination to do their best for our town.
